For the Coating
- 16 oz Frozen Pearl Onions Microwave before using
- 1 cup Flour Substitute with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version
- 1 teaspoon Paprika Smoked paprika offers a richer taste
- 1 teaspoon Salt Kosher salt recommended
- ½ teaspoon Black Pepper Adjust according to taste
- ¼ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper Omit or substitute with chili powder for milder flavor
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Fresh minced garlic can be used for bolder flavor
- 1 large Egg Use a flax egg for a vegan alternative
For Cooking
- 2 tbs Oil in a Spray Bottle. Avoid commercial sprays
Preparation Steps
Microwave the frozen pearl onions for about 2 minutes to partially cook. Once done, drain them well and pat dry to remove excess moisture.
In a bowl, beat the egg until combined. In another bowl, mix flour, paprika, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder to create a coating.
Dip the cooked pearl onions into the flour mixture, then into the egg, and back into the flour for a double coating.
Arrange the coated onions on a tray and refrigerate for 10 minutes.
Preheat your air fryer to 380°F. Place the coated onions in a single layer, spray with oil, and air fry for 3 minutes. Shake, spray again, and continue to air fry for another 3 minutes until golden brown.
Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
