French Beignets

Simpler and quicker than classic Chanukah donuts, these sweet fried balls of goodness come together in a snap!

Equipment

  • 8-quart pot
  • whisk
  • Paper Towels

Ingredients
  

  • 4-6 cups oil for frying
  • 1 cup milk you can use a pareve substitute
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon Union Spice Blends Apple Crisp Blend you can substitute with cinnamon
  • Confectioners' sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Heat 4-6 cups oil in an 8-quart pot over a medium flame for several minutes, until hot.
  • Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix all ingredients (besides confectioners' sugar) with a whisk until smooth.
  • Drop about 2 tablespoons of batter at a time carefully into the hot oil and fry until golden on all sides. (You will need to turn them once.)
  • Remove from pot and drain on paper towels. Dust with confectioners' sugar while still hot.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

This recipe yields about 15-20 beignets.
