For the Eggs

  • 4 large eggs

For the Marinade

  • ¼ cup soy sauce can swap for tamari for gluten-free
  • 1 tablespoon sugar adjust based on preference
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves minced garlic substitute with garlic powder if needed
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes adjust for heat tolerance

For Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions

Cooking Steps

  • Boil the eggs: Place the large eggs in a pot, cover them with water, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for 7-8 minutes until perfectly hard-boiled.
  • Cool the eggs: After boiling, transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water for about 5 minutes. Peel under running water.
  • Prepare the marinade: In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, water, sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Marinate the eggs: Take the peeled eggs and gently place them in a container. Pour the marinade over the eggs, ensuring they are covered.
  • Refrigerate: Seal the container and allow the eggs to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours; overnight is recommended for maximum flavor.
  • Serve: Remove the eggs from the marinade. Slice in half if desired, and garnish with chopped green onions.
